The growing demand for complementary healthcare.
Health funds, welfare funds, bodies or mutual aid societies set up for welfare purposes pursuant to Article 51 paragraph 2 letter a) of Presidential Decree no. 917 of 22nd December 1986 (‘TUIR’) or complementary health funds set up pursuant to Article 9 of Legislative Decree no. 502/92 and subsequent amendments are increasingly common in Italy as they were created to support the growing demand for supplementary health care, including dental care, which, as is well known, is excluded from the services included in the essential levels of care or the services covered by the National Health Service.
These types of Health Funds, if they are registered in the Register of Funds, established pursuant to Article 3 of the Decree of the Ministry of Labour, Health and Social Policies of 27th October 2009, are required to allocate a share of no less than 20% of the total amount used for supplementary benefits to restricted benefits, among which the most relevant are dental benefits. The registration of the Health Fund in the Registry of Funds allows the deductibility of the contribution paid by the Assisted Person up to a maximum of € 3,615.20.
